Lakewood's 2011 Winter Activity

Maureen and I have great news heading into the 2011 Fishing Season.  Our nightly rates will remain the same as 2010 for the coming year, 2011.  We are hoping for a great 2011 season.  We are seeing more activity, e mails, phone calls, reservations and trade show attendance over the winter, giving us optomism and excitement, while shovelling and spreading salt on the walk way in Beverly.  Infamous Dave was back eating French Fries and Thousand island dressing last weekend, taking Maureen, Mike, Joanne and I out for a terrific supper in Marlbourgh while we were in town for the Fly Fishing Show at the trade center.  We are happy to see him up and around, and doing much better after surgery in December.  Be awaire of his return to the Rapid in May!!

Donna, our wonderful cook, is happy to return for another summer at Lakewood.  This will be her fifth summer with us, providing great cusine for the help and our guests.  Maureen and I are very happy to have her commitment, unending work ethic, and willingness to please heading into the 2011 season.  I know many of the guests look forward to her vittles, and spirit in the kitchen.

We will be traveling to a few TU chapters this winter.  On February 5 2011 we will be participating in East Hartford's Fly Fishing Associations annual meeting held that Saturday, with a supper and programs for attendees.  On March 3rd we will be in Westport, CT. for their monthly meeting, providing a Power Point presentation on the camps and the Rapid River.  We are traveling to Valley Forge, PA. that weekend for the first Fly Fishing Show held there on Saturday and Sunday March 5 and 6 th 2011.  We look forward to seeing anyone who attends, stop by the booth, chat, lie, and tell stories.  Maureen and I really enjoy seeing folks, potential guests, and long term returning guests always bring our energy up, and make the planned return to Lakewood that much more exciting.

Snow is building at the camps, so a trip to clear roofs will be likely within the next week or so.  At that time a few pictures will be in order to let you see the beauty of 10 below, and wind at the camps.

Keep the spirit, and the excitement for the coming year in your hearts.  Pictures will be on the way.

All our best,

Maureen, Clover (seven years), Welly (thirteen years), Whit (six years)

Chatching up on the end of Summer fishing.

Maureen and I are glad to report a wonderful summer so far.  Fishing on the Rapid has held up well, considering the low rain fall, and bright, warm sunny days that have filled our months since May.  Buy far the brightest, sunniest summer in many years.  Families have enjoyed the 74 degree water, and the Anglers consistantly landing Salmon and occational Brookies at Middle Dam.  The work crew this year has been outstanding.  Willing to provide terrific service, and excited to meet the new arrivals in the dinning room.  Matt Hall, our cabin person this year, hails from Andover as a third generation Lakewood employee.  His Grandmother work for Mrs. Parsons, and his father for Stan and Sue Milton.  We are thrilled to have an excited, local fisherman delivering ice, and folk tails to the unsuspecting guests.  Mrs. Parsons passed away this month in her home in Andover at age 98.  Ted Orino, who has a camp on the lake, gave Maureen the obituary from the Rumford Times.  We posted this in the lodge.  We know many of our long term guests had years of fond memories with Larry and Ally Parsons.

We are busy gearing up for the Fall fishing.  Evening temperatures have been cool, and the Northwesterly breezes flooding over Carry Ridge.  The Brookies will be flashing their fall colors in the comming days.  The wood boxes are full, and the ice machine is starting to re-coop from the busy warm summer.  We extend our warmest greetings to all who enjoy this terrific location and world class fishery.  We hope to see you here at camp.

Mark your calenders for January 14, 15 and 16 2011 for the annual Fly Fishing Show in Marlborough Massachusetts.  We will also be in Somerset New Jersey on January 21, 22 and 23 2011.  Maureen and I like trading stories, and reconnecting with the fishing community at these terrific events.  There is so much to see at these programs, from Fly Tying, product demonstations, TU chapters, and lots of excited fisherman. We really hope to see you at one of these events over the winter.

Welcome to the Lakewood Camps Blog

Camp Summer

Full throttle ahead!!! Our guests make Lakewood Camps endearing, thrilling, enjoyable and a splended place to work. Maureen and I look fondly at the year ahead, knowing the challenges and fun are just a few short months away. Donna and the crew will be watching for the boat, ready to guide your journey to the river and the dining hall. The smell of fresh coffee and pancakes floating toward the cabins, Brookies and Salmon taking the early flies at Middle Dam. Think of the morning dew and fresh cut grass fetching on your waders, with the early morning sun rising over Metalic mountain.

We can't wait for the fun to begin!!!

We will be in Marlborough Ma. the weekend of January 15,16 and 17 2010 for the annual Fly Fishing Show. The following weekend we head to Somerset NJ, January 22, 23, 24 2010. We look forward to seeing as many of you who can attend these great events. Bob Duport will be joining us at the booth, and helping with the usual programs during the day in the desination theaters.
